The last room in our house to be renovated is our very burgundy 1980s bathroom. I’ve hated this bathroom for a long time, but it used to be the only bathroom in the house so we couldn’t renovate it until we built a second bathroom in the basement.
We were supposed to start our renovation last fall, but with a lot of drama over our garage project, it delayed us further into the spring.
Our bathroom is small, measuring approximately 5′ wide by 8′ long. For a master bathroom, that’s small by anyone’s standards. With the bathroom being used by all 5 of us, design was really important. I wouldn’t be able to get away with a minimalist vanity and simple mirror on the wall, like I did in the basement.
I spent many weeks pursuing the internet and going to tile stores to find the perfect tile as a starting point.
After a lot of deliberation, I landed on another Mutina product: their TAPE design. For reference, our kitchen backsplash and basement bathroom are also from Mutina.
Once I chose the tiles, I started thinking about the layout. With such a small space, I don’t have many options and will be keeping the layout pretty similar to what’s there now. I did, however, start looking at ways to integrate more storage while keeping the space open and de-cluttered.
Without seeing what’s behind the walls and under the floor, we couldn’t choose specific products. But as soon as the demo is done, we’ll take some measurements and finalize the design.
