When we found out we were having twins, we were in the middle of a major kitchen renovation and I didn’t have hours on end to look at nursery ideas. Instead, I simply patched some cracks and holes in the wall, repainted, cleaned and set up their furniture. It would be a while until they were sleeping in their room anyways, so it became a problem for later. Well, now it’s later.

With my new main activity being breastfeeding, it left me lots of time to peruse Pinterest looking for nursery ideas. One creative thing I saw was painting geometric shapes on one or two accent walls and I was inspired!

Now, I’m a big fan of white. My entire house is in Benjamin Moore’s chantilly lace: ceiling, walls, trim, and even my kitchen cabinets. So it’s completely radical of me to choose anything other than white. I even thought about doing two shades of grey (which is far less scandalous than 50), but decided to really be bold and just go for it. After all, it’s just paint and I could always revert back to white.

Unfortunately the start of my nursery project coincided perfectly with the start of the pandemic, so getting materials and supplies was exponentially more difficult. Luckily I had everything I needed, except the paint, and our paint store was deemed an essential service so I was able to pick some up.

It took me a while, but I finally chose 3 colours for the bedroom.

Next, I taped the wall to match the shape I wanted to create. This was the hardest step since I wanted to make sure the angles were right.

Next, we painted. I painted each colour separately, doing 2 coats plus some touchups. For some reason the yellow didn’t go on as well and I did an extra coat to remove some blotchiness.

Removing the tape was the most stressful, but also the most satisfying step! We moved the furniture and started putting the finishing touches on!

I wanted to get specific shelves from Ikea for their room, but ended up having to put picture frame ledges up instead. It still looks great, but wasn’t exactly the look I was going for. I’m still super happy with it and think the room looks amazing!
